A Brief History of the Asia Cup:

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) was formed in 1983 to promote relations between Asian nations. One of the first decisions of the ACC was to establish a biennial One Day International tournament between the cricket playing countries of the continent. The first edition of the Asia Cup was organised in 1984 in the United Arab Emirates, which at that time also housed the headquarters of the ACC.

Currently, the ACC is headquartered in Selangor, Malaysia.

India was the winner of the inaugural Asia Cup held in 1984. Overall, the tournament has so far been organised 9 times with both India and Sri Lanka finishing as winners four times each. Pakistan finished as champions once.

Interestingly, Sri Lanka have reached the final on each one of the nine times.
