SCG History:
The first important match ever played at the Sydney Cricket Ground was actually not a cricket match at all. On 6th August 1881, New South Wales took on Victoria in an Australian rules Football match at this ground, which was then known as the Garission Ground. The first important cricket moment for the SCG was the debut of Victor Trumper on 25th January 1895 in a first class game involving NSW and an England XI. However cricket has been known to have been played at this ground as early as 1848. However it was not until thirty four years later that the first test match was played at the SCG. In 1896, the famous Ladies Stand that still stands proudly was opened to the public.

Ground/Wicket Profile:
The SCG was earlier famous for being a great batting beauty, and a number of huge scores were amassed at this ground. However, of late, the Sydney Cricket Ground has become famous as the ‘spinner’s paradise’ in Australia. Ironically enough thoug, Shane Warne, arguably the greatest spinner in the history of cricket made a horrible debut here at the SCG and was torn apart by the Indian batsman, notably Ravi Shastri who scored his first and only double hundred here in 1992. Among the many memorable innings played at the SCG, the more famous amongst the recent ones was Brian Lara’s classy 277 in 1992-93.
