In a country known for its cricket grounds and their rich histories and traditions, the Rose Bowl is refreshingly different and new. Established only in 2001, it is a state-of-the-art cricket stadium. Built in the amphitheatre style, the ground’s architecture is stunning to say the least.
The Rose Bowl is one of the world’s most expensive stadiums – it was built on a massive budget of 24 million sterling pounds. When the ECB still preferred the Cardiff ground to allocate Test status, Rob Bransgrove, an initial investor, pumped in another 35 millon pounds to take care of the quality of the pitch and mitigate the traffic problems that were threatening to overshadow the beauty of the ground.
The Rose Bowl is now set to host its 1st Test Match in 2011. That will make it only the 9th ground in England to be allotted Test Status.
