Cricket Grounds in India
After the success of the Indian cricket team led by Kapil Dev in the 1983 Prudential World Cup in England, cricket caught the attention of the nation like no other sport had done before in its history. It would hardly be an exaggeration now to call India ‘the true home of cricket’. This country is obsessed with cricket like nothing else – probably Bollywood is the only other competitor. Go anywhere in India, at anytime during the year and you will see kids playing cricket – whether it’s in the icy Himalayan states of Jammu & Kashmir or Uttarakhand, in the dusty plains of north India, the deserts of Rajasthan or the coastal states in the Deccan, cricket is everywhere.
While India lagged behind England and Australia in terms of cricket grounds and stadiums earlier, in the past two decades it has caught up big time. India now has more international cricket centres than any other country in the world. Here’s a list of some of India’s most important cricket grounds and stadiums.
