History:
The awe-inspiring Eden Gardens is one of the oldest and the most famous cricket grounds of the world. Established in 1864, the stadium has a seating capacity of 90,000 but it is reported to have housed over 1,00,000 cricket fans during a couple of the biggest matches in the past. It has hosted the first ever World Cup final outside of England, when the World Cup was jointly hosted by India and Pakistan in 1987. In the 1996, it was the stage for the World Cup semi-final between India and Sri Lanka.
One of the most famous Test matches of all times, the India vs Australia test made famous by VVS Laxman’s 281 and his partnership with Rahul Dravid that put India back in the match and on the path to victory took place here at the Eden Gardens.
