History:

The cricket ground in Rajkot before being renamed after the former Railway Minister of India and President of the BCCI, Madhavrao Scindia was known as the Municipal Ground. It has also been known as the Racecourse Ground and the Corporation Ground in the past. The architect of the Madhavrao Scindia Stadium was Vinod Makesana.

1st One Day Match: India vs Australia on 7th October 1986

1st Test Match: It has not yet been granted Test status by the BCCI.

A new and modern ground is coming up on the outskirts of Rajkot and it is likely that the Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Ground may not get to host too many international matches in the future, though it will continue to host First class cricket matches.
